We are thrilled to share groundbreaking findings on the effectiveness of an intensive trauma-focused treatment programme for individuals diagnosed with Complex Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (CPTSD). Recognized as a distinct mental health condition in the 11th edition of the International Classification of Diseases (ICD-11), CPTSD requires specialized care to address its unique challenges. This study aimed to determine whether individuals with CPTSD could experience significant improvements through an intensive treatment approach, leading to reduced symptoms of both PTSD and CPTSD and even loss of diagnoses. In this study, 308 patients diagnosed with PTSD embarked on an intensive 8-day treatment programme that combined various evidence-based therapies. This comprehensive approach included prolonged exposure, eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) therapy, psycho-education, and physical activity. Notably, the treatment was not phase-based, meaning there was no separate stabilization phase or skill training prior to therapy. This approach allowed for a direct focus on addressing trauma-related symptoms and their impact. The results were astounding. Following the intensive treatment, symptoms of both PTSD and CPTSD significantly decreased, resulting in an impressive 74.0% loss of CAPS-5 based PTSD diagnosis and even higher rates of 85.0% and 87.7% for ITQ-based PTSD and CPTSD diagnoses, respectively. These findings underscore the power of trauma-focused treatment for individuals with CPTSD, demonstrating that the majority of patients experienced substantial benefits and a significant reduction in their diagnostic criteria. It is important to note that this intensive treatment programme prioritized patient safety, with no adverse events reported in terms of suicides, suicide attempts, or hospital admissions. This further emphasizes the effectiveness and safety of this approach in supporting individuals on their journey to recovery. If you or a loved one has been diagnosed with CPTSD, this study offers hope and encouragement. The results strongly suggest that an intensive trauma-focused treatment programme can be life-changing, enabling significant improvements in both PTSD and CPTSD symptoms and even leading to a loss of diagnosis. Embrace the opportunity to embark on this transformative journey towards healing and reclaiming your life.
